Dental Imaging Marketing for UK Referral Centres

Dental Imaging Marketing for Referral Centres

Dental imaging marketing is mostly business to business. Dentists, orthodontists and implant surgeons decide where scans go, and they choose on turnaround, report quality and ease of booking. We help centres make that case clearly, online and in person.

About Us

Marketing for Centres That Practices Refer To

Pulse Digital Health works only in healthcare. A dental imaging centre earns most of its work from referring practices, so the buyer is a practice owner or clinician with a patient waiting. They ask: can you see my patient this week, will the report be useful, and how do I send a request? Direct patient searches exist but are smaller. See also endodontic clinics, a typical referrer type.

We therefore build for referrers first. A scan request page lists the imaging types you offer, field-of-view options, how images and reports are delivered and expected turnaround. Radiologist or reporting clinician profiles show qualifications. A portal login, a simple referral form and a named contact for practice managers do the rest.

Compliance is part of trust. Imaging in the UK sits within radiation protection law, including the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations, and services are generally registered with the CQC. We reflect this honestly and avoid clinical claims. Check specifics with your regulator or legal adviser.

How We Help

How We Help Dental Imaging Centres Win Referrals From Dentists and Specialists

We learn which referrers you want and why

Discover

We learn which referrers you want and why

We map the practices, specialists and implant teams within reach, and which imaging they currently use. We also interview your radiographers and reporting clinicians on what referrers praise or complain about, such as turnaround, field-of-view choices or file formats.

The audit compares your referral process with what a busy practice manager needs to send a patient today. Typical outputs include referrer territory map, referrer interview themes, referral process audit, competitor service comparison.

We build a referral page that works in a minute

Build

We build a referral page that works in a minute

The website gets a scan guide, sample request form, imaging options explained for clinicians and a patient page that prepares people for the appointment. We add profiles for reporting clinicians, delivery formats, and details on safety and regulation. A short email template and printed pack help sales visits. Patient-facing wording stays plain and reassuring.

Typical outputs include scan request form, imaging options guide, reporting clinician profiles, referrer pack and email template.

We keep referrers sending patients

Grow

We keep referrers sending patients

Growth means regular contact: short updates for referring practices, practical webinars or lunch sessions and a quick way to share sample reports with consent. Search campaigns reach patients who search for scans directly, such as dental CT near me.

Reporting tracks requests by referring practice and by scan type, so you know who is active and who has gone quiet. Typical outputs include referrer newsletters, practice visits support, direct patient search campaign, referrer activity reporting.

Dental Imaging Rules: IR(ME)R, Justification and GDC Advertising Standards

Dental radiography, including cone beam CT, is governed by the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017. Every exposure must be referred by an entitled referrer and justified by a practitioner before it happens, so a dental imaging centre cannot market scans for direct booking by the public in the way a cosmetic clinic might. The College of General Dentistry's selection criteria for dental radiography set out when different images are appropriate, and referral forms should reflect them.

Dentists and radiographers working in the centre must be registered with the GDC or HCPC. GDC guidance on advertising expects information to be accurate and verifiable, and specialist titles can only be used by those on a GDC specialist list. CQC registration for diagnostic and screening procedures applies in England. Marketing therefore focuses on referrers rather than patients.

How Referring Dentists and Patients Search for Dental Imaging

Most searches come from dental professionals:

  • "CBCT scan referral near me" and "dental CT scan centre"
  • "OPG referral private" and "dental x-ray referral service"
  • "CBCT reporting service"
  • "CBCT for implant planning"
  • "what is a dental CBCT scan" (patients after referral)

Patients typically search after a dentist has referred them, looking for preparation advice and directions. A short patient page with what to expect serves them well.

What a Dental Imaging Centre Website Should Include

Referrers choose on ease, speed and reporting quality:

  • An online referral form that captures the clinical justification required.
  • Scan types, fields of view and the clinical questions each suits.
  • Who reports scans, their registration and turnaround times.
  • How images and reports are delivered, including file formats for planning software.
  • Fees for scans and reports, and how patients pay.

A searchable map of referral partners, or at least a list of the areas served, helps dentists judge whether patients will travel to the centre.

Content Priorities for a Dental Imaging Centre

Referrer content should be technical and concise. Useful pages include which field of view suits implant planning, impacted teeth, endodontic problems or airway assessment; how radiation dose is optimised; how reports are structured; and which file formats work with common planning software. A short patient page explaining what a CBCT scan involves, how long it takes and why the dentist asked for it reduces anxiety and phone calls.

  • Publish reporting turnaround times and stick to them.
  • Explain who is responsible for reviewing incidental findings outside the area of interest.
  • Offer CPD material for referrers on justification and selection criteria.

Referral Routes Into Dental Imaging

Implant dentists, orthodontists, endodontists and oral surgeons are the main referrers. Building relationships through study clubs, CPD sessions and clear communication is more effective than consumer advertising.

Some patients are referred for jaw joint imaging. A TMJ and orofacial pain clinic may be a useful partner for both referrals and onward care.

Worked Example: Launching a CBCT Referral Service for Local Dentists

Illustration only, not a client result. Imagine a centre with a new CBCT unit and few referring practices.

  1. Build a referrer page with an online form, scan options and reporting turnaround.
  2. Run a CPD evening on CBCT selection criteria for local dentists.
  3. Send practices a short guide to referral and image delivery.
  4. Track referrals by practice to see which relationships grow.

Referrer campaigns are quoted after a free strategy call; see the healthcare marketing pricing guide.

Dental Imaging Centres Marketing FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Healthcare Marketing for Dental Imaging Centres

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Contact us today.

  1. Who chooses a dental imaging centre, patients or dentists?

Mostly dentists and specialists, who refer patients for scans. Some patients self-refer or are sent by an insurer. Marketing should therefore prioritise referral ease, report quality and communication with practices, then support patients with clear appointment information.

A short call with a few referring dentists often reveals more about their priorities than any survey could.

  2. What should a scan request page include?

The imaging types offered, field-of-view options, what to include in a request, how soon appointments are available, how images and reports are delivered and who to contact. Keep the form short. A practice manager should be able to complete it between patients.

If you offer urgent slots, say how to request one and what counts as urgent.

  3. Can we mention radiation dose or safety?

Yes, factually. Explain that scans are justified and carried out under UK radiation protection rules, and that clinicians consider the need for each exposure. Avoid comparative claims you cannot substantiate. Check specifics with your regulator, radiation protection adviser or legal adviser.

Keep a named radiation protection contact visible, so referrers and patients can ask questions about safety easily.

  4. How do we compete with in-house scanners at dental practices?

By offering what a single practice cannot: modern equipment, specialist reporting, and flexible access for patients whose own dentist lacks a scanner. Do not criticise in-house options. Explain when referral adds value and how results return to the referring clinician.

Some practices will keep scanning in-house for routine work and refer only complex cases, which is a reasonable use of your service.

  5. Do reviews matter for imaging centres?

Patient reviews matter for direct bookings and for how your centre looks online, while referrer feedback matters more commercially. We encourage patient reviews after scans and gather referrer comments for use only with their agreement.

Referrers also look at your Google profile, so respond politely to every review and keep images current and accurate.

  6. What is a realistic first-quarter plan?

Fix the referral page and form, build a contact list of practices, send a first update and set up tracking by referrer. Then add outreach rhythms. We prefer a small, steady programme to a one-off mailing, and report requests monthly.

Plan quarterly reviews of referrer activity, so you can thank active practices and revisit those that have gone quiet.

Accelerate your clinic's growth.
