Healthcare local SEO, or local SEO for healthcare, helps a clinic appear when nearby patients search for care. It covers the Google Business Profile for each clinic, local listings, reviews and location pages, with names, addresses and phone numbers matching everywhere. In the UK, listings and pages should also follow ASA and CAP rules, and CQC wording where it applies.

Where clinic local search fails

Why clinics miss the
Google local pack

  1. The Business Profile is half finished.

Missing categories, services, hours and photos give Google less to match against a patient's search.

  2. Names and numbers differ across the web.

An old address on a directory or a different phone number on a hospital profile undermines trust in every listing.

  3. Keywords are stuffed into the name.

Adding treatments or towns to the business name breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended.

  4. Reviews arrive in bursts, then stop.

A clinic with a handful of old reviews looks less active than one that asks every patient, every week.

We only work in private healthcare: 40+ UK private clinics, consultants and medical groups, and nothing else. No e-commerce, no restaurants, no property. Every page we publish is written against the CAP code, the GMC and GDC advertising guidance and your CQC registration requirements, because the alternative is a website that costs you a complaint rather than a patient.

Our Way of Working

How we run local
SEO for clinics.

Local SEO for a clinic starts with the Google Business Profile, then the listings, reviews and location pages that back it up. We audit all of them, fix the conflicts and report on calls, direction requests and bookings. Retainers are quoted after a call; see healthcare marketing pricing.

  • Weekly working sessions
  • Live dashboards on day one
  1. Be Found Near Patients

Many patients search close to home. We set up and improve your Google Business Profile, local listings and location pages. Your clinic then appears when nearby patients look for care.

  2. Consistent Details Everywhere

Names, addresses and phone numbers must match across the web. We clean up conflicting listings and keep them in step. Reviews and local content then add further trust.

Google Business Profile

Local SEO for healthcare: what we do on Google Business Profile

We complete and maintain the Google Business Profile for each real location, covering categories, services, description, hours, photos and the booking link, and point it to the matching location page. We reply to reviews in the clinic's voice without confirming that the reviewer is a patient, following Google's guidelines for representing your business.

Scope

What is included and what is not

  • Included: a verified Google Business Profile for each real clinic location, kept complete and up to date.
  • Included: checks and fixes to local listings so your name, address and phone number match everywhere.
  • Included: review management, asking patients fairly and replying to every review.
  • Included: a distinct location page for each clinic site, and reporting on calls, direction requests and bookings.
  • Not included: a guaranteed local pack position. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking (how local ranking works).
  • Not included: treatments or towns in the business name, virtual-office addresses or incentivised reviews, which break Google's rules (Google's prohibited and restricted content policy).

Worked example: Harley Street Audiovestibular Clinic

Over 6 months the clinic's Google Business Profile was viewed 14,135 times and produced 940 direct actions: 492 website clicks, 354 direction requests and 94 calls. These are one clinic's figures, not a promise for another.

Google's rules

What Google's local rules mean for a clinic

Local SEO for healthcare is shaped less by tricks than by a short set of published Google rules. We build clinic profiles around them, and you can read each one yourself.

  • Google's help page on local ranking says results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. It adds that prominence draws on information such as how many websites link to a business and how many reviews it has.
  • Google's guidelines for representing your business say the name should match the real-world name, without extra service or location details, and that virtual offices and remote mailboxes are not acceptable addresses. They also set out that doctors and dentists are listed as individual practitioners, and that where several practitioners share a location the organisation should have its own profile.
  • Google's prohibited and restricted content policy does not allow incentivised or biased reviews, and says they will be removed from Maps.
  • Location pages need to work well on phones. The web.dev page on Core Web Vitals sets good thresholds of 2.5 seconds for Largest Contentful Paint, 200 milliseconds for Interaction to Next Paint and 0.1 for Cumulative Layout Shift, assessed at the 75th percentile of page loads.

For a clinic, this means a Google Business Profile for each real site, a name and address that match the clinic's signage, and review requests that never offer anything in return. See healthcare SEO services for how local work fits the wider plan, and healthcare link building for the links that feed prominence.

The local pack

How the Google local pack works for clinics

The local pack is the map and the short list of businesses Google shows for searches with local intent, such as dermatologist near me or physio in Leeds. Google says local results are based mainly on three factors (Google's guide to local ranking):

Relevance

How well a profile matches the search. A clinic with accurate primary and secondary categories, a full services list and treatment pages on its website gives Google more to match.

Distance

How far the clinic is from the searcher, or from the place named in the search. You cannot change your address, so for patients further away the local organic results and location pages matter more.

Prominence

How well known the business is. Google says this takes into account things like how many websites link to the business and how many reviews it has, along with ratings.

Google also says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. For multi-site groups, each real location needs its own verified profile and its own page; see our guide to adding a new clinic location.

Checklist

Google Business Profile checklist for private clinics

We work through this checklist on every clinic profile. Rules are taken from Google's guidelines for representing your business.

Beyond the profile

Local SEO signals on your own website

Location pages that are not copies

Each clinic site gets one page with its own address, parking and transport, clinicians, treatments offered at that site and a map. Swapping the town name on a template does not count.

Consistent listings

We check the main UK directories, hospital consultant profiles and professional registers so your name, address and phone match everywhere.

Answers About Our Local SEO Services

Healthcare local SEO questions,
answered.

The things clinics ask us most about local seo. Anything we haven't covered? Send us a note.

  1. What is local SEO, and why does my healthcare practice need it?

Local SEO improves your visibility when patients search for clinics or specialists near their location. It focuses on Google Business optimisation, location-based keywords, and accurate service information. Strong local SEO helps patients find you quickly and trust your clinic's details. This approach is essential for attracting local enquiries and strengthening your community presence. It ensures your clinic appears at the right time for nearby patients.

  2. How do you optimise my Google Business Profile for better local search performance?

We optimise your Google Business Profile by updating accurate service details, adding high-quality images, and ensuring consistent contact information. Our team improves visibility through category selection, keyword-focused descriptions, and regular posting. We further monitor performance insights and update seasonal information when needed. This approach strengthens local relevance and helps patients find your clinic easily during important searches in your local area daily.

  3. How important are online reviews, and how do you help manage them?

Online reviews are critical because they influence patient trust, search visibility, and local reputation. We help you manage them by guiding patients to leave genuine feedback, monitoring new reviews, and responding professionally when needed. Our professionals ensure profiles remain active, accurate, and reassuring for potential patients. This structured approach strengthens credibility and supports steady growth for your healthcare practice every day.

  4. Will local SEO help if my healthcare practice has multiple locations?

Yes, local SEO supports multi-location healthcare practices by strengthening visibility for each clinic's specific area. We create location-focused pages, optimise individual Google Business Profiles, and ensure consistent information across all listings. The team at our agency has tailored keywords to each location's patient needs and competition. This approach helps every branch appear reliably in local searches and improves overall patient discovery across regions each month.

  5. What is clinic local SEO?

Clinic local SEO is the work of making a clinic appear in Google Maps and the local results when nearby patients search for a treatment or specialist. It covers the Google Business Profile, consistent listings, genuine reviews and a page for each location. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence, and that you cannot pay for a better local ranking.

  6. What does a Google Business Profile for clinics need?

A Google Business Profile for a clinic needs the real-world business name with no added keywords, a genuine address patients can visit, correct categories, services, hours and a booking link. Google's guidelines do not allow virtual offices, and doctors and dentists can have practitioner profiles when they are public-facing at the verified location. Reviews must not be incentivised.

  7. How often should local SEO activities be updated or reviewed?

Local SEO should be updated regularly because search behaviour, competition, and platform requirements evolve frequently. We review performance data, refresh keywords, and update profiles to maintain strong visibility. Seasonal changes, new services, and patient trends influence optimisation needs. Frequent reviews ensure your clinic stays competitive. This ongoing attention helps attract consistent local enquiries and strengthens your long-term digital presence online.
